He rose, to show us an example of resurrection;
he ascended to give us protection from above.
(St Augustine, Sermon, 263.1, on the Ascension)

Community News

It was as always a great pleasure to celebrate Holy Week and Easter with our guests and other friends, and to use Eastertide as an opportunity to invite various friends of the Community for meals.
Many thanks to all our readers and to John for singing the Exultet. Bishop Michael presided for us, most appropriately, on Vocations Sunday.

We were very happy to welcome Sr Rita and Sr Yvonne from Park House for a few days' holiday after Easter.

Sr Eileen went to Malestroit for the meeting of the General Council from 19th to 22nd May.

Many congratulations to Mgr Slattery on his Diamond Jubilee. Two of the Sisters were delighted to be able to join in the beautiful celebratory Mass in Milnthorpe.

Congratulations similarly to Fr Parker, who is currently in the middle of celebrations for his Golden Jubilee.

Coffee Morning

The COFFEE MORNING was once again a great occasion, raising a grand total of £7,823 (and still rising!) Despite the recession, all the stalls were just as successful as usual, and more than three hundred visitors came.

An extra highlight was the Scottish piper, very kindly provided by Helen. And the sun shone down on us! We are so grateful to our incredibly capable, committed and hard-working team of volunteers - without them, of course, we couldn't begin to make the day happen.

A huge thank you to all the staff, volunteers, visitors and donors for all their kindness and generosity. Plans are under way for the redecoration and refurbishment of the Drawing Room (the room with the wall paintings - don't worry, we have taken expert advice!), and the first of the new windows are already in place. We hope you will come to have a look in a few months' time and enjoy the fruits of your labours.

Marymount Nursing Home

The Marymount Easter Garden was much admired, and the Easter Raffle raised £280. Thanks to Shirley, to Joan and to all the staff for the hard work.
