and our Nursing Home has the Cardiac Smart Award! meaning we have a defibrilator and, very importantly, staff trained in CPR and defibrilation.
Accommodation
The beautiful situation of Boarbank Hall facing south and overlooking Morecambe Bay and Humphrey Head, helps to provide a peaceful and attractive setting for recovery.
Our accommodation consists of 27 single rooms, each comfortably furnished and equipped with bedside nurse call system, television and private telephone. We also have two lounges facing the bay and leading out into extensive gardens which are mostly wheelchair friendly.
Residents are more than welcome to bring familiar items of furniture; it is our wish to make you feel at home here during your stay.
Please don't forget we have our guest house available within the same site, allowing family members or friends to have a holiday or short break at the same time as visiti
ng their loved one, but never being far away if needed. We understand it is often quite difficult for carers to have a holiday and our guest house is a possible solution. Contact them for more information.
We also have a small shop selling toiletries, stationery and other basic items, ably run by Sister Michael.
Medical and personal care
We can provide post-operative and medical care, care of the frail elderly and of the terminally ill and respite care.
Local people can be attended regularly by their own GP and others will be registered with a local doctor during their stay with us.
Other services are provided by visiting dentists, chiropodists and opticians.
We offer a high staff/resident ratio to ensure the best of care and enable us to meet the needs of each individual.
We have Sisters from the community working alongside our lay staff. We train all our staff to a high level, and take care to maintain the ethos fostered by the Sisters over the years.
Our staff are our best assets. We recognise this and invest in them by regularly updating their professional development.

Religious and spiritual care
We emphasise the need to care for the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of all our residents, and we welcome as residents believers from all faiths and non-believers alike. All our staff are completely dedicated to supporting our ideal of caring for the whole person. This care extends to their families, with whom we share the responsibility for them.
Those patients who would like to are welcome to join in the regular daily services in the chapel, as well as the bigger occasional events. They will be given any necessary assistance to attend these. Our chaplain, Fr John Mackie, visits the nursing home, and ministers from various local churches also visit. An Anglican communion service is held once a month.
One of the sisters, Sister Mary Michael, has been appointed as Pastoral Carer within the nursing home. She describes her role as follows:
"My name is Sr. Mary Michael, and I am the link for Pastoral Care and Support in the Nursing Home.
It is both a joy and a privilege to visit the residents on a regular basis, to listen to their concerns, to offer support, and to help, if needed.
Together with our Chaplain, other sisters and staff, we accompany them on their final journey, continuing to offer love and care - to them and to their families."
Dining and food
Patients may dine in their own rooms or in the lounge with other residents, or by arrangement in the guest house.
We provide individual attention to menus and use fresh local produce. Special dietary needs are catered for.

Activities
A dedicated member of staff arranges a varied programme, based on requests from residents. Regular events include sessions of singing, baking, exercise, poetry, crafts and manicure & massage. The programme of events and talks is very varied, including local history, theatre, concerts and music evenings and visits from schools. Patients may also join in the courses run from the Guest House.

Patients are frequently joined by the Sisters and other guests to celebrate anniversaries and other important events.
We have a wheelchair adapted minibus which is used to take patients on visits to see the Lake District or other local places of interest.
