New Chaplain
We are delighted to welcome our new chaplain, Fr Frank Thorpe, from the Salford Diocese. Fr Frank has been a regular visitor to the Guest House for some years and many of you will already have met him.
We are very grateful to Father for accepting this new ministry, to Bishop Arnold and the Diocese of Salford for enabling him the freedom to come here and, of course, to God for another Chaplain for us, our residents, staff, visitors and Guests.
Guest House
It has been good to be able to open up the Guest House to bigger groups, at least for day events. These have included our double 100 (+1) th anniversary celebrations, Sr Margaret M.’s Golden Jubilee, and the return of the Churches Together Advent Carol Service.
We have also had a few residential groups, though on a smaller scale than in the past: Thinking Faith over the summer, the Cumbria Christian Meditation Group, and the Oscott fifth-year students, as part of their course on Catholic Social Teaching.
There have been quite a few comings and goings of staff, but we would like to say a particular thank you and farewell to Liz and Liborio Loreto. Liz, the niece of Sr Mary Clare, returned to England to look after her parents, who both eventually died in Boarbank. Liz also worked in the Guest House and as Activities Coordinator for the Nursing Home. We wish them all the very best as they return to their old life in Italy. Arrivederci, but not goodbye!
The Nursing Home continues to be vigilant against Covid, but it is much easier again to welcome visitors and for the residents to share activities. We continue to be very grateful to Elizabeth and the Staff for their dedication, compassion and hard work in providing excellent care in what are still not easy circumstances.
WE WISH ALL OUR
STAFF, RESIDENTS,
FRIENDS AND RELATIVES
EVERY BLESSING FOR CHRISTMAS AND FOR 2023.
We hope to see again soon those of you who haven’t been able to visit in recent times.
