The singing was great – and that was just the birds! Our annual birdwatching retreat, Two Wings & Some Prayers, was blessed by good weather and some very obliging avian singers, who helped an enthusiastic group of human beings sort out their willow warblers from their tree pipits (pictured above).
Highlights of the week included superb views of bittern and hobby, and a bullish ruff trying in vain to empty ‘his’ island of a mass of godwits, much larger (and calmer!) than him – they viewed him with grown-up disdain, and merely flowed back into place when he went to chase off the next lot! Once again we reached over 100 species, aided by a smart red-legged partridge and some superb views of whimbrel on the last morning. There were also some mammalian moments, not least the releasing of more harvest mice into our grounds.
The human singing was excellent too, as the group joined the Community for sung Prayer of the Church and daily Mass. Talks included theological reflection and learning more about migration. Many thanks again to Margaret P. for her excellent guidance and teaching, and to John for the photos.
There are still places for the following events:
Our Lady in Latin (July ) and Thinking Faith: Mary, Mother of God and of the Church St Augustine on the Psalms and Re-Creation!
