Our annual Thinking Faith residential week began on 27th July, on the theme ‘Exploring our Catholic Faith’. Sr Margaret and Fr Richard led most of the sessions, with some shared group explorations. We used two books as our starting-points: G.K. Chesterton’s Orthodoxy and Richard Conrad OP’s The Catholic Faith. Themes included God & Creation, Sin & Grace, the New Testament on Christ, the early Church on God, the Sacraments, the Moral Life, and the Saints. Trips out included a visits to Briggflats Quaker Meeting House and Farfield Mill near Sedbergh, and a walk in Hay Bridge Nature Reserve. We also watched together Don Camillo in Russia and Alec Guiness as Chesterton’s Father Brown. A craft evening revealed a variety of hidden talents among the group, and we ended, as usual, with a buffet and social evening. Throughout the week, participants shared Mass and Sung Office with the Community (thank you to Fr Richard for the Masses and homilies). Thinking Faith’s unique mixture of holiday, course and retreat proved once again a great way to renew old friendships and make new ones.
